KEWI Chiakariga Campus is a constituent campus of the Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) which was established by an act of parliament in 2001 (Kenya Water Institute Act,2001).
Among its objectives is; to provide training programmes, seminars and workshops and produce publications aimed at maintaining standards in the water and sanitation sectors.
Chiakariga Campus is located in Chiakariga location, Tharaka South District and it is mainly geared towards providing sustainable water solutions in Arid and Semi-arids lands (ASALS) through training and applied research. The college was officially opened on 17th April 2010 by H.E. Hon, Mwai kibaki C.G.H.,M.P.,President and Commander – in – chief of the armed forces of the Republic of Kenya
KEWI Chiakariga Campus occupies 17.5 Acres of land.
Initially it was a base for Kenya-Sweden Water and Sanitation Programme and MOWR/SIDA-Tharaka Water and Sanitation.
The facility was handed over to KEWI in 2002 and opened its doors to students in September 2009.
The campus was established to target courses related to Arid and Semi Arid Lands (ASALs) such as Drainage and Irrigation, Water Technology and Resource Management, etc
